Boondock Maps (boondockmaps.com) is published by Lucky Future LLC ("we," "us"), 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801. By using the site you agree to what follows. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

What this site is

Boondock Maps is a free reference site about camping on public land in the United States: where free and overnight camping is allowed, what the rules are, and what gear holds up. We publish information. We do not sell campsites, take reservations, broker permits, or act as an agent for any land manager.

The important part: rules change, and you are responsible

Read this section even if you skip the rest.

Camping rules, stay limits, closures, and overnight-parking policies change constantly, and they change without telling us. A forest road closes for fire. A rest area drops overnight parking. A county passes an ordinance. A district changes its dispersed-camping limit. We cite an official source and a last-verified date on every rules page so you can see exactly where a fact came from and how old it is.

The posting on the ground and the land manager's own current guidance always win. Our page is a starting point for your research, not a permit and not legal advice. Before you rely on anything here, check the source we cite and look for signs at the site itself. If our page and a posted sign disagree, the sign is right.

Where we do not have a rule verified, we say so and leave it blank rather than guess. A blank means we have not confirmed it, not that anything is allowed.

You are responsible for where you camp and what happens there. Camping, driving forest roads, and living off-grid carry real risk, including risk of injury, property damage, citation, and death. You accept that risk.

Calculators

The calculators are estimating tools that run in your browser. They use simplified models and typical values, and they cannot see your actual equipment, wiring, or conditions. Treat the output as a rough planning number, not a system design. For anything involving electrical work, propane, or generator exhaust, get advice from a qualified installer. Bad power decisions burn things down and bad exhaust decisions kill people.

Gear pages and outbound links

Our gear comparisons are our opinion based on published specs and our own use. They are not a guarantee that an item will work for you. Product specs and prices change without notice.

We link to sites we do not control, including land manager sites and retailers. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices. Some outbound links are affiliate links and the site carries display advertising; see the advertiser disclosure.

Acceptable use

Use the site for your own trip planning. Do not scrape it wholesale, republish substantial portions of it as your own, or use it to build a competing dataset. Do not try to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site.

Our content

The text, tables, calculators, and design on this site are owned by Lucky Future LLC. Quote us with attribution and a link. Do not copy pages wholesale. The underlying facts we report, such as public land rules, belong to nobody and you are free to go verify them at the source, which is exactly what we want you to do.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the information here is complete, current, or correct.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Lucky Future LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of your use of the site or reliance on anything published here, including citations, fines, towing, property damage, injury, or death. Some states do not allow these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
