If you bought a DREO ceramic space heater from Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s or DREO between September 2025 and October 2026, turn it over and read the label. On October 29, 2026, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and DREO recalled about 338,800 DR-HSH015 heaters because they “can overheat and ignite.” In a house that’s a fire hazard. In a camper there’s less room around it and fewer ways out.
Is yours one of them
The recall covers model DR-HSH015 units made from April 2025 through January 2026 only. The manufacture date (YYYY/MM) and the model number are printed on a label on the underside. The heater is black, about 11.5 inches wide and 13 inches tall, says “DREO” on the front, and comes with a remote. DREO’s support page sells this model as the Whole-Room Heater 715, so check that name on your receipt too.
CPSC lists these sellers: Costco stores and Costco.com, Dreo.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, QVC.com, HomeDepot.com and B2BRenew.com, for $70 to $110. About 36,300 more were sold in Canada.
DREO has received 17 reports of heaters igniting. Three caused property damage and one caused a burn injury to a hand.
What the remedy involves
Stop using it today. DREO is offering a free replacement heater. To get one, you unplug the heater, cut its power cord, and send DREO a photo of the destroyed unit. Call 833-820-0887 (8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, weekdays) or go to recallrtr.com/spaceheater.
If you’re out on the road, cutting the cord leaves you without that heater until the replacement arrives. Plan another way to stay warm for those nights. Don’t keep using the old heater “just until.”
The shore power math
DREO rates this heater at 1,500 watts. CPSC doesn’t say what model the replacement is, so read its label and swap in its number. The arithmetic doesn’t change.
- On a 30-amp hookup: 1,500 W at 120 V is 12.5 amps. A 30-amp service supplies 3,600 W, so the heater uses 42 percent of your pedestal before anything else runs. Add the 1,440-watt water heater element and you’re at 2,940 W, with 660 W left for everything else in the rig.
- On a generator: enter 1,500 W as a running load in the generator sizing calculator.
- On a power station or battery bank: one hour on high is 1,500 watt-hours, plus what the inverter loses. Eight hours on high is 12,000 watt-hours, twelve times what a 1,000 Wh station holds. Off-grid, heat with propane. Our post on what an RV furnace actually pulls from the battery covers the trade-off, and the power budget guide puts it next to everything else you run.
CPSC’s notice says nothing about RVs or vans. Nothing in it suggests the failure is different in a rig. What’s different is the space. Inside a camper, a heater that ignites is a few feet from the bed and the door.
