Of these three parks, only Shenandoah still has a campground open after October 25. Every open campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway takes its last campers that Sunday night, Acadia’s last campground closes the morning of October 19, and Shenandoah closes its four campgrounds one by one through November 29. We read every date below on October 18, 2026.
Blue Ridge Parkway: done after October 25
The Parkway’s camping page says its campgrounds “are open from May through late October, weather permitting. They are closed in winter.” The per-campground pages read their dates from the park’s campground data, which gives a season of Friday, May 22 to Sunday, October 25, 2026 for Otter Creek, Peaks of Otter, Rocky Knob, Doughton Park and Mount Pisgah, and lists all five as “Closed for Winter” from October 26 to May 21, 2027. Julian Price has the same dates for Loop A only. Recreation.gov agrees: Peaks of Otter sells nothing after the night of October 25.
Two campgrounds never opened this year. The park’s data lists Linville Falls as “closed to all camping in 2026” and Crabtree Falls as “Closed for 2026,” both because of Hurricane Helene. If an older trip plan routes you to either, it is out of date.
Julian Price has two more catches for 2026. Its Recreation.gov listing says “Reservations only. No first come, first served, camping in 2026” and “Shower house not available in 2026.” The Parkway’s camping page lists the fee as $30 a night.
Shenandoah: four closing dates
Shenandoah’s operating dates page (last updated September 22, 2026) lists these 2026 closing dates:
- Mathews Arm (Mile 22.2): November 1
- Loft Mountain (Mile 79.5): November 1
- Lewis Mountain (Mile 57.5): November 22, first-come, first-served only
- Big Meadows (Mile 51.2): November 29, reservation only
The park’s date is the last night, not the first closed one: Recreation.gov was still selling November 1 at Loft Mountain and November 29 at Big Meadows. The park’s campground data also says “Camping is NOT permitted in the campgrounds when they are closed.” And the park labels every date “subject to change,” so check again the week you go.
Acadia: the season is over
Acadia’s hours page lists Blackwoods closing “Oct 19 @ 10 am,” with Seawall and Schoodic Woods already closed October 12. There is no fallback inside the park. The campgrounds page says: “There is no backcountry camping, ‘out-of-bounds’ camping, overnight parking, or winter camping allowed anywhere in Acadia.”
What to do
If you are heading down the Parkway after October 25, plan your nights off it. Our Virginia and North Carolina pages cover what we have verified nearby. Six Great Smoky Mountains campgrounds close the same weekend, though parts of Cades Cove and Smokemont stay open all winter.
For a November trip, Big Meadows is the safe bet in Shenandoah, but you need a reservation. Lewis Mountain is first-come, first-served until November 22. A closed gate or a posted notice at the campground overrides any date here, including ours.
